Kicking off the Marathon Training

Kicked off the marathon training today with a easy 4 mile run. The run itself was easy, but it occurred to me as I was on my last mile that this is the first time in a very long time that I’ve managed to pick up training again following an injury or illness. I started building a base at the turn of the year, and about two weeks ago I came down with a cold and sinus infection. That’s happened before (every year for the past few years, in fact), and it’s usually been enough to kill my motivation and waste a perfectly good Spring. I think the fact that I have health coverage now and was able to get adequate treatment (instead of letting it drag out or fearing that it’d get worse) might have something to do with that. Anyway, I think I’m in good shape to run a sub-4 hour in Charlevoix.

My one complaint, however, is that Runkeeper, the app that I have loved dearly since I found it, has changed so much of its interface that I’m having a hard time using it. The fitness reports aren’t as useful anymore, but that’s neither here nor there. My big gripe is that they changed the fitness class format–there’s no longer a monthly schedule, and they pre-program your running schedule into certain days (i.e. my last fitness class, I ran on TWTSS. Now it’s MWTFS, which isn’t as convenient). Obviously, I can just backdate the workout logs, but it’s still not as flexible as I’d like it.

Pardon the Mess

Hey everyone!

In case you’re wondering what’s going on with ryanbladzik.com, it’s getting a makeover. Having become a WordPress evangelist, I decided to convert my personal web site to more of a blog format as well, so that I can share my random thoughts, opinions and perspectives online. Trouble is, going from a static programmed site to a CMS driven site requires some planning and rebuilding. So…that’s what I’m working on right now–rebuilding and reformatting the template.

I hope to have a little more time to finish the renovation so I can start posting fun stuff here again.

Oh, and there will be no more google ads on this site, either, but you’re certainly welcome to visit my online magazine The Rail and click on all of the links you want on there.

Thanks!
